Beaches for families
Not all of the city's beaches suit children equally; the ones north of the port are calmer and better served than Barceloneta.
Nova Icària
The sheltered orientation keeps the water gentler, the sand is wide, and showers, footbaths and a playground sit just behind it.
Bogatell
Slightly quieter again, with volleyball nets, outdoor gym equipment and a grassy edge that is kind on tired feet.
What to bring
An umbrella for shade, water shoes for warm afternoons and something for the showers; lifeguards are on duty in high season.
